Premiere: Elliot K – the hits vol 2

Chicago bedroom dream pop band Elliot K (previously known as Dog Jesus) latest release the hits vol 2 is set to release on tape. Today they’re giving Midwest Music Collective readers a first listen.

It welcomes you in warmly, like a coming of age film rom-com. The lyrics are honest and reflective. Diving into this release is diving back into your favorite novel at 15. Side A is all new recordings. “Black Nail Polish” is the standout track of the side with it’s unbridled vulnerability; reflecting on both the power and fear that comes with presenting queer in public. Thelma and Tongue cross into dance-pop territory, incorporating a lot more synths and electronic beats. They also separate tape sides, a contrast of current recording and old macbook demos, front person Nick Abel recorded on their own over the last couple years. When asked about the release Nick referred to it as a “really late bloomer” as some of these songs are now coming out two years after recording.

You can pick up cassette copies of the hits vol 2 from upcoming Elliot K shows in Chicago, IL and Franklin, WI. You can also check out their previous releases on their Bandcamp
